DermAlert® Software Donated to Support Melanoma Awareness Month. |

- Western Research Company has donated 200 copies of the DermAlert® sofware to the
Melanoma International Foundation (Glenmore, Pa) to be distributed to participants in the
"Safe from the Sun Walk & 5K Run" on May 6, 2007 in Seattle.
The DermAlert® software provides a powerful tool to allow individuals with a high risk of melanoma to
carefully monitor their bodies for the appearance of new or changing moles. These "evolving" moles
should be bought to the attention of a physician for evaluation of possible melanoma.
In 2006, studies showed that one in 60 people were diagnosed with melanoma. It is estimated that in 2015, one in 50 people will die from melanoma skin cancer. About 8,100 people die each year from this rapidly increasing cancer. Since there is not a good treatment available for melanoma, the key to reducing melanoma deaths is early diagnosis prior to spread. It is this role of early diagnosis that the DermAlert® software is designed to assist. |
